Botanical Sketchbook Workshop with Rui Jiang and Marion Olsen

Mondays 10th, 17th and 24th June

Chelsea School of Botanical art is delighted to announce that CSBA Diploma graduates and talented artists, Rui Jiang and Marion Olsen, will be leading next month’s Botanical Sketchbook Workshop.

Suitable for beginners looking to explore a new genre and artists who wish  to return to the process of ‘works in  progress’

Join us to explore the delights of Ham Lands, South West London’s 72 hectare nature reserve, during this 3-Monday workshop that will cover drawing, ways of recording details and making colour notes ‘in situ’, as well as using your sketchbook effectively for botanical art projects, with further work in the classroom.

The joy of using a sketchbook is in the exploration and ‘journey’, recording the details of what you see onto the page… not necessarily on completing a finished painting!

Rui has a BA in New Media, an MA in Graphic Design and graduated with distinction from CSBA’s Botanical Painting and Illustration Diploma Course in 2017.  Her work was included in this year’s Royal Society of British Artists exhibition and the Society of Botanical Artist’s Annual Exhibition: Plantae.  She is a lover of roses and her work has an impressive following on social media.

Marion is a professional mezzo-soprano and discovered her talent for painting while recovering from glandular fever in 1996.  Her love of flowers lead her to botanical art and she started courses with CSBA in 2015, graduating with credit for her Botanical Painting and Illustration Diploma in 2018.  She continues to exhibit and her work is held in private collections in Great Britain, France, Spain, Malaysia, Australia and her native New Zealand.

Media used will be graphite pencil, watercolour, pen and ink.
